Florida Woman Calls Cops, Worried About Explosive Semen In Thermos

A Pasco County woman called police because she was afraid that the semen she was storing in a thermos and dry ice might explode.

Felicia Nevins, 26, called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office around 6 p.m. Wednesday after she forgot to remove a rubber O-ring from the thermos. The next thing she knew, the details of her call were all over social media. That's because the sheriff's office posted the details on Facebook.

Police say Nevins told them she is trying to get pregnant by artificial insemination, and was trying to store sperm as per the directions she was given. Pasco County Fire-Rescue officers carried the thermos outside, "used a pair of channel lock pliers to remove the thermos lid, releasing the pressure and removing the danger. The container was given back to the woman without incident."

That night, a TV news crew appeared on her doorstep with a camera. She spoke to them, but declined to identify herself. She said she spoke to the Tampa Bay Times on the record Friday because her name is "already out there."

Nevins says she is upset that the Facebook post has not been removed. Nevins was not identified by name but she said she was mortified that enough information was posted for her to be identified.

The sheriff’s office defended its action, saying it was important to provide the type of safety information contained in the post.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has gained 10,000 followers since the post, which has been shared nearly 250 times.

Nevins says the sheriff's office could have used social media to warn people about the dangers of dry ice without including details of her personal life — which also resulted in medical information being disclosed. All Nevins can do now if unfollow the Pasco County Sheriff's Office on Facebook.
