The annual worldwide event, Ride of Silence, on May 17th commemorates fallen cyclists and creates awareness for bicycle safety.
South Florida has a local 'Ride of Silence' in Key Biscayne Wednesday. For Co-organizer, Maribel Reyes, the event hits home.
"Three years ago my husband was killed on Key Biscayne while riding his bicycle," said Reyes.
She'll honor her husband's memory and others killed on our roads, while hoping to spread a message.
"There's some people out there, that truly don't think that bikes belong on the road and they do. People just need to slow down a little bit," says Reyes.
The Ride of Silence in Miami-Dade is taking place at Crandon Marina's parking lot at 6:30 p.m. for a 12 mile, police escorted bike ride. There is also a local Ride of Silence in Delray Beach.
