Florida Tourism Up, But Are Future Numbers Doomed?

We've reached another record number of visitors here in the Sunshine State.

During a visit to Miami's Jungle Island park Monday, Governor Rick Scott announced 31.1 million tourists came to Florida during the first three months of the year. That's a 2.5 percent jump since last year's first quarter.

Furthermore, nearly 113 million tourists, most of them from the U.S., visited over the past year.

Scott, however, warns that potential cuts to Florida's tourism marketing agency could severely impact future growth. State legislators recently voted to cut funding to Visit Florida by 67 percent.

If Scott signs the new state budget the cuts, they will take effect in July. Scott hinted he may veto the budget.

Legislative leaders have defended the cuts by pointing to questionable Visit Florida contracts.
