Authorities: 4-Year-Old Special Needs Boy Hit, Killed By Car in Orlando

A 4-year-old special needs boy was fatally struck by a car after he left his parents' motel room and wandered onto a nearby road in Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said in a news release 56-year-old Mauricio Azocar was driving at South John young Parkway and Sand Lake Road just after 2 a.m. Friday when he struck something along the dark road.

He stopped immediately after the crash, but found the child dead.

Troopers followed small footprints in the dirt to an Extended Stay America motel across the street. They noticed a side door cracked open and went inside, finding a motel room door that was not completely shut.

Troopers awakened the parents, who said the boy had special needs and they weren't aware he had left.

The boy and his parents were visiting from New York.
