A Miami-area billionaire plans to spend the next few years spending his own money and raising more from others to defend illegal immigrants in court.
Mike Fernandez says he is creating a nonprofit political organization to help groups like Catholic Legal Services and Americans for Immigrant Justice which provides services to unauthorized immigrants facing deportation.
However, he says he only plans to help non-felons.
Being here illegally is a civil violation.
