Police Investigate the Unrelated Deaths of Two Local, 2-Month-Old Babies

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are trying to determine what when wrong after a 2-month-old was found dead Monday morning in a home near Fort Lauderdale.

Deputies allegedly responded to a call regarding an infant’s death just after 10 a.m. at 2791 N.W. 15th Court. The baby was found dead in one of the bed’s inside of the home.

This incident coincides with a Southwest Miami-Dade couple as they prepare to bury their own 2-month-old.

NBC 6 reports that the baby's father and his fiance were taking a nap with their newborn, named Ayla, around 2 p.m. Sunday at their home off SW 129th Avenue and 268th Street. When the baby’s mother woke up, she noticed something was wrong with the child.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, nearly 3,500 infants die each year from sleep-related incidents including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The group says you can help prevent tragedies by doing such things as keeping the baby on their back on a firm sleeping surface - while not sharing that surface with their parents.
