LINKS: 1.2 Million Recalled Cars On SoFla Streets

It's not just bad drivers putting you at risk on the road right now.

Currently about 1.2 million cars on South Florida's streets have recalls that haven't been repaired.

That ranks us eighth worst in the country.

Recall Masters CEO Chris Miller says there isn't one person or thing to blame.

Some owners know their vehicles have been called back to the dealers but they ignore it.

"Just because you are choosing to not take the recall seriously and repair it, which is a big problem in the U.S., people being apathetic about getting these recalls repaired, does not mean you are not putting other drivers on the road at risk."

He also notes some drivers don't know their cars have been recalled because manufacturers and dealers can have a difficult time tracking down a second, third or fourth owner.

Miller stresses, "It's not a pattern that the manufacture and dealerships can solve overnight, it's something we all have to do together, so consumer awareness is imperative."

To be an educated car owner, you can take matters in your own hands and check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the government's website safercar.org or non-profit motorsafety.org to learn if your car's affected by a recall.
