Elderly Couple Boards FLL Flight to Michigan, Ends Up in New York?!

An elderly couple in wheelchairs is anticipating a flight to Michigan this weekend after being wheeled onto the wrong plane the first time around!

Helen Wheeker, 97, and husband George Nobel were traveling Wednesday, waiting to board a flight at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to visit relatives in Michigan.

But instead of flying to Grand Rapids, they ended up in Ogdensburg, New York.

Allegiant Air spokeswoman Hilarie Grey told Local 10 News that a glitch in the boarding pass scanner is to blame for the couple being wheeled and boarded on the wrong plane. Allegedly, the gate for the Grand Rapids flight was next to the one for the flight to Ogdensburg.

Wheeker and her husband received a complimentary flight back to Fort Lauderdale since there are no direct flights from Ogdensburg to Grand Rapids.

Allegiant Air has refunded the couple. They're now anticipating flying to Michigan this weekend.
