Florida's Unemployment Rises Higher Than National Rate

Although Florida businesses created more than 50-thousand jobs in January, the state's unemployment rate is inching up once again.

State officials announced Monday that unemployment rose to 5 percent in January alone. That is higher than the overall national rate. Monroe County has the state's lowest unemployment rate at 3.5 percent.

However, Florida added more jobs in January than any other state in the nation, beating out both Texas and New York. Over the course of the last year, Florida has added a total of nearly 300,000 jobs altogether.
