Discount Parking to Disappear at FLL Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will eliminate its economy parking lot.

The $7.50 per day parking lots will close because of a recently-constructed parking garage. Travelers will be moved into this new facility to park, which will have fewer spaces and will cost $15 per day. The new garages will be closer to the terminal.

In the wake of these changes, FLL is also looking for ways to mitigate the congestion surrounding the amount of cars waiting to pick up passengers at the airport. According to a report by the Sun Sentinel, airport officials acknowledge that they’re trying to raise revenue by eliminating the economy lot.

The current, 4,000-space economy lot sits on Southwest 42nd Street and travelers board a shuttle to the terminal (about one mile away). When the lot closes mid-April, drivers in search of spots will be directed to 3,100 spots in the Cypress parking garage (across from Terminal 1) and will pay $15 each day.

Travelers who leave town before April 19 will have until April 30 to move their vehicles out of the lot. They won’t be allowed into the economy lot if they are returning after April 30.

More information is expected to be released by airport officials Monday.
