George W. Bush: Press, SNL, and Poncho Fails

This week, former President of the United States, and one that is usually rather quiet in the face of the limelight and media, George W. Bush, has been making media rounds to promote his new book.

Since leaving the White House, Bush has two — a memoir of his years as president, and a book about his father. His third piece, out this month, Portraits of Courage, is a bit is a bit of a departure from the former in that it is 192 pages of oil paintings of soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen who were wounded while serving in wars launched during Bush's presidency. Accompanying the portraits are stories about how each subject dealt with setback and then recovery.

While making his media rounds this week, George W. Bush ended up on Jimmy Kimmel Thursday night, where, instead of pressing on Trump and the current state of the the nation, Kimmel talked to Bush about impersonations and the importance of the "type of humor where you make fun of yourself", to which Kimmel responded "well, you should tell that to the President".

In honor of this realization that it's always important to have a good laugh at yourself, let's look back on some of the best Bush impressions:

Will Ferrell on @midnight with Chris Harwick

Steve Bridges at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner

Frank Caliendo on David Letterman

Former President George W. Bush also appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday, where the comedic talk show host poked fun at the viral video of Bush attempting to put a rain poncho on at the Presidential Inauguration event of Donald Trump. Footage caught of George W. Bush has been turned into meme after meme because of the seemingly disappointed face he's making (whether that be due to in-climate weather or the undeniable doom for the country he once led).

ICYMI, check out some video footage here:

Bush laughed off the memory as well, with Ellen.

With all of the media rounds this week, in the midst of the promotion of his new book and the national headlines surrounding the presidency, Bush has much to contribute this week. However, the one lesson we can all take away from him is the one he shared with Jimmy Kimmel:

The best humor is when you make fun of yourself
