A 24-year-old U.S. Navy sailor is in jail without bond after the navy claims she went AWOL after giving birth last August.
Ana Lucia Gnecco was arrested at her parent's Hollywood home earlier this week on behalf of the federal government. The military claims she was supposed to return to her Portsmouth, Va. base in January but never showed. She worked in reception and medical support at the Naval Medical Center there.
Gnecco enlisted in the Navy in November 2014. Her contract was to end Nov. 11, 2019.
By military regulation, after missing a base-return date by at least 30 days, it is considered desertion. After failing to return to her base, the U.S. Navy claims she went AWOL.
It is still unclear why the sailor did not return to her base. Gnecco's case remains an open investigation.
