Local officials are hoping to get firearms off our streets with the 'Safer Communities Gun Buy Back Event' taking place tomorrow.
City of North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin says the program offers residents an opportunity to turn in their guns, no questions asked. In exchange for turning in a firearm, residents will receive a 200$ gift card. "One weapon off the street is better than nothing because you never know what that one weapon, if it remained on the street or unlocked in somebody's home, you never know what kind of tragedies have been averted simply by getting two dozen guns off the street in an afternoon." He says individuals can remain anonymous and all guns that are turned in are destroyed.
FREE gun locks for safe fun storage will also be provided. The event is only intended for community members and not commercial dealers. Galvin is joining County Commissioner Sally Heyman and several law enforcement agencies at SoLe Mia sales office at 15045 Biscayne Boulevard.
