Homeless Trust Conducts Annual Miami-Dade County Homeless Count

Hundreds of volunteers are helping the homeless in Miami-Dade Thursday night.  They'll cover every inch of the county to get an accurate count of the homeless population.

Ron Book with the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust Chair says the Point-in-Time (PIT) count has helped veterans.

"We have housed hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of veterans over the last two years.  While we have been focused on that effort and we are now down below ten veterans living on our streets," said Book.

Another group volunteers will keep a close eye out for during their count, the youth.

He says the goal of the PIT count is to gain a better understanding of how they can utilize their resources to end homelessness.
