Questions Swirl Over Trump’s ‘Military Complex’ Under $400M Ballroom

President Donald Trump is raising eyebrows after revealing that a “massive” military complex is being built beneath the White House’s new $400 million ballroom — a detail that surfaced during remarks aboard Air Force One.

While touting progress on the ballroom project, which he emphasized is not being funded by taxpayers, Trump casually disclosed what may be the most significant aspect of the construction. “The military is building a massive complex under the ballroom,” he said, adding that the structure will house capabilities ranging from drones to other unspecified operations. He also described the ballroom as essentially acting as a cover for what’s being built below.

Trump went on to highlight security features, including thick bulletproof glass and drone-resistant roofing, fueling speculation that the underground buildout could function as an advanced bunker or command center. The comments quickly prompted questions about the scope and purpose of the project — and why such details are only now coming to light.

When pressed for clarification, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declined to elaborate. “The military is making some upgrades to their facilities here at the White House,” she said, adding she was “not privy” to provide further details.

The existence of the underground complex reportedly surfaced in a lawsuit filed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which claims the administration bypassed required approvals during the ballroom’s development. The White House had previously dismantled a Presidential Emergency Operations Center in the East Wing during construction — leading to further speculation that this new facility could be a more expansive replacement.
