Senator Bernie Sanders is introducing a bill that would establish a four-day work week in the U.S.
Sanders, an independent senator representing Vermont, argued fewer working hours are necessary to ensure recent technological advances, such as automation and artificial intelligence "benefit the working class, not just corporate CEOs and wealthy stockholders on Wall Street."
If passed, the bill would also lower the threshold required for overtime pay from 40 hours a week to 32 over the course of a four-year period.
Sanders declared, "It is time to reduce the stress level in our country and allow Americans to enjoy a better quality of life. It is time for a 32-hour workweek with no loss in pay."
