Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has officially announced her plans to step down following Super Tuesday after seven years at the helm.

In a statement to the New York Times, McDaniel said, “I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing.”

“The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition,” she added.

McDaniel is Mitt Romney's niece and was the second woman to lead the RNC.

Prior to that post, she served as the chair of the Republican Party in Michigan.

Apparently sailing to the GOP nomination, former President Donald Trump says he favors Michael Whatley, North Carolina GOP chair, and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, for co-chair.
