Meta to Label AI-Generated Images to Prevent Misinformation

In advance of the 2024 election, Meta says it will identify and add labels to images created by third party AI tools to prevent the spread false information on its platforms.

Meta will also add a button that allows users to label their own AI-generated audio and videos or possibly face penalties.

In 2023, six bills addressing deepfakes in campaigns and elections were introduced on Capitol Hill, but none of them landed on the president’s desk.
