The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage after donations dropped 40% over the past two decades.

Supply was down seven-thousand units alone between Christmas and New Year's Day.

So, to encourage Americans to roll up their sleeves and donate, they are offering a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

The Red Cross's chief medical officer calls a blood shortage "life or death and one of the most distressing situations for a doctor."

The organization is working with the NFL to offer the trip, and if you sign up to donate blood in January you will be automatically entered.

Schedule your next blood, platelet or plasma donation appointment today.
