Marijuana use during pregnancy is being linked to low birth weight.

A study published the American Medical Association looked at over nine-thousand pregnant women across the U.S. and found that cannabis use was associated with an increased risk of unhealthy outcomes, including low birth rate.

"The risk for an adverse outcome was higher among those who continued to use cannabis beyond the first trimester, according to JAMA. "Therefore, cannabis use should be avoided during pregnancy to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes."

According to the study, expectant moms who used pot products had a 25.9% unfavorable birth outcome, compared with 17.4% among those who did not.
