Scientists in China have created a first-of-its kind monkey known as a chimera using two sets of DNA.

The monkey was made using the stem cells from a long-tailed macaque with a genetically distinct embryo from the same species.

The mutant monkey with shining green eyes and florescent-glowing yellow fingertips, lived for ten days before it was euthanized.

The hope is that the breakthrough will help prevent further extinction of certain species.

Research on the project was published Thursday in the journal Cell.
