If you're headed to the beach today in South Florida, beware of dangerous rip currents.

The National Weather Service says high winds are creating a high rip current risk in place for beaches in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties through at least Thursday night.

On-shore wind gusts could reach 20 to 30 miles per hour.

A yellow flag posted at the beach warns that moderate rip current activity is expected.

A red flag means a dangerous hazard of high surf and strong rip currents.

You should be cautious if entering the water, don’t swim alone, and know what to do if caught in a rip current.

Dangerous surf conditions and local beach erosion are expected.
