The latest phone scam targets shoppers in a text message seemingly from the US postal service urging you to click on a link to learn more about a problem with your delivery.

Authorities want you to know that "clicking on fraudulent links can lead to identity theft, the installation of malware on your device, and could lead to your contact information being sold to other bad actors."

The Postal Service says text messages or emails will not be sent to a customer unless you registered on their website to receive updates.

Also, Postal Service messages "will not contain a link."
