Parents should be aware of an uptick in crimes targeting teenagers. Attorney General Ashley Moody issued a warning yesterday about how artificial intelligence is being used in sextortion cases involving teens.
She says criminals are buying hacked social media accounts to send AI-generated sexually explicit images to teens to establish online relationships.
The goal is to get the teen to send them sexually explicit images that can be used as blackmail.
Moody adds the FBI received at least seven thousand reports of sextortion of minors last year, and in the last 18 months, at least three teens around the country committed suicide after falling victim.
She urges parents to talk to their kids about online safety.
