Tens of thousands of people stranded at the water-logged Burning Man festival are departing the stew of mud in remote northwest Nevada.

“Exodus operations have officially begun,” according to organizers. organizers.

Traffic finally started to pour out of the counterculture event after heavy rains flooded the area, turning it into a mud pit and leaving thousands trapped over the holiday weekend.

The festival traditionally culminates with the burning of a massive effigy and a temple, but the fires had to be postponed because of the emergency.

The effigy did eventually go up in flames Monday night and the temple should be put to flame tonight.
