(Trumbull, CT) - A Connecticut man who found $5,000 in cash in a bag lying in the parking lot of a bank and kept it now faces a charge of third-degree larceny.

Robert Withington, 57, told the Connecticut Post it felt like he "hit the lottery." Instead, it was a bag full of the Trumbull town's tax funds.

"I walked out onto the parking lot, saw something on the ground and there was no one around so I picked it up. It's not like I stole something."

He added: "This is like a crock of baloney. I found money and now it's probably going to cost me money."

Well, Police said the bag was clearly marked with the bank's logo and contained documents identifying the owner as the town of Trumbull.

According to Trumbull police, a tax collector’s office employee lost bank deposit bag while on the way to the bank in May. The employee then reported the missing funds, Lt. Brian Weir said.
