Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft spun out of control and crashed into the moon, the country’s Roscosmos space agency reported.
Roscosmos lost contact with the unmanned robot lander Saturday after the spacecraft reported an “abnormal situation.”
“The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the moon,” according to the Russian space agency.
Luna-25 was supposed to make a first-ever landing on the south pole of the moon Monday. The area is believed to have important reserves of frozen water and precious elements.
