A new report says nearly 800-thousand Americans die or become disabled each year after being misdiagnosed.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University estimate about 370-thousand of those patients die from their misdiagnosis, while over 420-thousand are permanently disabled.

The lead author of the report calls it a "public health emergency."

According to the report, the five diseases most commonly misdiagnosed are stroke, sepsis, pneumonia, blood clots and lung cancer.
