(The Florida Everglades) -- The largest Burmese python, ever, has been caught by snake hunters in Florida.

The 19-foot python was caught Monday at the Big Cypress National Preserve.

The previous record was 18-fee-10-inches long for a Burmese python also caught in South Florida 2020.

Snake hunter Jake Waleri says it's concerning because "the snakes are getting bigger every year."

And now, 15-foot python named "Big Mama" escaped from a California home more than a week ago and was thankfully found in a neighbor's backyard.

Escaped pet snakes are just part of the reason there is a major Burmese python problem in the Florida Everglades. Also, when Hurricane Andrew blew through with 150 mph winds in 1992, roofs were blown off a number of exotic wildlife facilities in the storm’s path. One of the buildings affected was a Burmese python breeding facility.
