COVID-19 has now reached all seven continents.
Three-dozen people stationed at a Chilean research base in Antarctica recently tested positive for COVID-19.
The Chilean Army says it was possible to evacuate everyone to Punta Arenas in Southern Chile where people are isolated and in good condition.
Replacement crewmembers were dispatched to the remote base. All tested negative prior to their deployment.
The Chilean Navy confirms that three crew members of a ship that provided logistical support tested posivive after returning from their mission.
While there are no permanent residents on Antarctica, up to five-thousand researchers and support staff are there throughout the year. This is the busiest time of year since it's summer at the South pole.
