Baby Yoda Launches Into Space

Astronauts bring a special "Zero Gravity" indicator when they launch into orbit on Falcon 9 rockets.

During a test flight in the spring, Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken brought along a small toy dragon. It was appropriate since they were the test crew for the new SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule.

Disney+ fans will recognize the latest zero gravity indicator as Baby Yoda, or "The Child." The small stuffed animal can be seen floating around inside the Crew Dragon capsule named Resilience.

Three Americans and a Japanese astronaut are on their way to the International Space Station for a six-month mission in orbit.

The is the first operational flight for Crew Dragon, meaning it's not a test flight.

NASA is paying SpaceX for the tickets to ride into space. The space agency still buys seats on Russian rockets to get to the I-S-S since the shuttle fleet retired in 2011.

Baby Yoda has been the star of the new Disney+ series "The Mandalorian," which is part of the Star Wars universe.
