After Nearly 75 Years Judge Orders Pensacola Cross Be Removed

After standing in Pensacola public park for nearly 75 years, a federal judge has ordered a cross be removed because it offends some.

Despite his reluctance, the judge ruled the 34-foot cross in Bayview Park violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution.

The American Humanist Association filed a lawsuit last year on behalf of four Escambia County residents who argued the cross violated the separation of church and state.

A city spokesperson says they've received the order to take down the cross within 30 days and they're reviewing it with their own lawyers.
