Grocery Store Shaming Customers Who Use Plastic Bags

Well this is definitely one way to convince customers to not use plastic bags anymore.

A supermarket in Vancouver has debuted a brand new brand of plastic bags for customers who don't bring their reusable totes.

Instead of giving customers a plastic bag with the store's logo, these bags say embarrassing things such as 'The Colon Co-Op' and 'Into the Weird Adult Video Emporium.'

The owner of this store, David Lee Kwen explains that the idea wasn't meant to embarrass customers, but instead make them stop and think about their actions and how plastic bags can negatively impact the environment.

"So many people own reusable bags but forget to bring them," he said. "We want to help customers remember their reusable bags in a way that will really stick with them."

Kwen continued on and explained "we wanted to give them something humorous, but also something that made them think at the same time. It’s human nature not to want to be told what to do."

There was only a limited amount of bags printed and while social media found it funny, so did the customers.

'Some of the customers want to collect them because they love the idea of it,' Kwen said. 'It’s a double-edged sword. We wanted to address an issue, but we’ve also made something popular, so it’s turned out great.

This marketing move comes a few days after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada would ban single-use plastics.
