Three Things You Need to Know – December 12, 2017

Today Is the Day in Alabama

Roy Moore or Doug Jones? Alabama will finally decide today.

This morning, most polls have Roy Moore slightly ahead, but Fox News has Jones leading by 10 points. It’s very close.

Democrats have driven themselves insane for a year trying to figure out What Happened? How could a guy like Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton? Now the Left can’t understand why Doug Jones isn’t running away with this race after the creepy allegations against Roy Moore.

Why would conservatives vote for a creep? Are all conservatives creeps? Why would Christians support someone like Roy Moore? Does Christianity now condone Roy Moore-like behavior?

For many conservatives in Alabama, this is the same struggle they had in the presidential election last year when many held their nose and voted for Trump. Why would they do that?

Democrats, listen carefully, I’m going to save you a lot of time and effort because the answer is very simple – it boils down to abortion.

Being a single-issue voter isn’t sophisticated enough to many on the Left and Right. But defending life is such a fundamental principle for most conservatives that it will override most other factors, yes, even Roy Moore-type allegations. That is the political reality in America.

The deciding factor in this race wasn’t the revelation about Roy Moore’s dating habits 40 years ago – it was in September when MSNBC’s Chuck Todd asked Doug Jones his thoughts on an abortion ban 20 weeks into a pregnancy. Jones replied, “I’m not in favor of anything that is going to infringe on a woman’s right and her freedom to choose. Once that baby is born, I’m going to be there for that child. That’s where I become a right-to-lifer.”

For most conservatives in Alabama, and throughout the country, that’s way too late to be concerned about life. One Republican pollster in Alabama put it this way: “If Jones were pro-life, he’d be up 10 points.”

If Roy Moore wins today, it won’t be because Alabama voters like him – in fact, many are disgusted by him – but they hate abortion more.

The DOJ and FBI Need to Get Their House in Order

It’s time the Russia investigation was put on hold. At this point, the DoJ and FBI need to be investigating themselves rather than a case as critical as Russia.

It came out yesterday on Meet the Press that the special counsel was busy trying to piece together what happened inside the White House after senior officials were told Mike Flynn was susceptible to blackmail. Ok sounds good, but why is Muller still bogged down over that? Hand that off and get busy investigating – oh I don’t know – the largest hostile intelligence operation conducted against the United States IN OUR HISTORY. You know… that little thing when Russia attempted to interfere with the election. The crime you’re supposed to be concentrating on. Because last time I checked, the election happened months BEFORE the Trump transition period. If you see obstruction of justice there, GREAT – well not really great – but get someone else to take that on.

So back to the campaign and Russia. We STILL don’t know how a company like Fusion GPS became so influential in this investigation. Fusion GPS, a company that was employed by the Russians, The Clinton Campaign, and the DNC. Does it sound like the information you’d get from them might be JUST a little bit biased? Apparently, that knowledge was either lost on the FBI and DoJ or they just didn’t care because we now know that the FBI was trying to pay to have a Fusion GPS operative continue his work.

When the House Intelligence Committee began pushing Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein to answer to some of these things, they started to get a little pushback. Now, what possible motive would Rosenstein have for stonewalling Congress? It came out last week that senior DoJ Official Bruce Ohr, was demoted after it was found out that he had secret meetings with the head of Fusion GPS. That alone sounds bad, but that was sooo last week. Yesterday, Fox News reported that not only was Ohr holding secret meetings with Fusion GPS, but his wife was also working for them as well. She was employed by Fusion GPS while the Trump Dossier was being compiled. Before working at Fusion GPS she worked at a Washington think tank where her specialty was described as… a Russia expert.

Wanna take any guesses on where Ohr’s office was at the DoJ? Well low and behold… a few doors down from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Whether something nefarious happened here or not, you could very easily make the case that this was the reason the outlandish Trump Dossier was used to possibly get FISA warrants to spy on a presidential candidate. You could also make the case that the bias is so thick that it’s also the reason why the Special Counsel seems so hell-bent on proving obstruction of justice rather than finding out who was involved in possibly the worst foreign intelligence attack in our history.

So to the DoJ and FBI, can you get your houses in order? This is getting embarrassing. Someone needs to step up and figure out how we were so easily hacked and infiltrated by the Russians. I don’t care if it’s Joe Friday, Perry Mason or Jim Rockford… we need outside investigators. Time is running out.

What’s Going on With Our Justice System?

He was kidnapped, bound with duct tape, gagged with an old sock, beaten, stabbed, and forced to drink toilet water. Death threats and racist remarks bombarded his ears.

And it was all caught on camera; intentionally, of course.

The malicious attack by four black teens on a white mentally disabled young man was streamed live on Facebook for the whole world to see.

Brittany Herring Covington, 19, was the person who recorded the torture on her phone. A Chicago judge recently let her walk away with just 200 hours of community service for her role after she pleaded guilty to a hate crime, aggravated battery and intimidation charges.

Why the leniency? The judge said that she declined to give Covington jail time because, “I’m not sure if I did that you’d be coming out any better.”

Why is this judge thinking about the attacker’s best interest, instead of the victim? It just doesn’t seem right to me. The three other kidnappers are still awaiting trial and they all deserve far more than community service in my opinion.

I don’t understand the outcome of another court case that happened last week.

On Thursday, former police Officer Philip Brailsford was acquitted of murder or manslaughter for an on-duty shooting. It’s hard to watch the body cam footage of this incident because it shows an intoxicated, unarmed man, Daniel Shaver, crawling toward police crying “Please don’t shoot me.”

Officer Brailsford fired at him five times, killing Shaver. Maybe it is right that Brailsford was being consistent with police training like his attorney successfully argued, but watching the footage you can’t help but think Shaver posed no threat to the police; that this was an unnecessary death.

Have we all forgotten common sense? Between these two stories, I don’t know what is happening with our juries, our judges, and our grasp on reality anymore.
