Good advice on this Good Friday from the Humane Society of Broward County if you're planning on adding a bunny to your home this Easter. "Do your research."

According to spokeswoman Cherie Wachter, the shelter sees an uptick in rabbits left for adoption a few weeks after Easter, "Currently we have one rabbit up for adoption."

She says many times families who buy a bunny for Easter regret the decision because rabbits require significant care, including a specific diet.

"Feeding a bunny is also expensive because they eat fresh vegetables and rabbit pellets." says Wachter.

She adds that often the novelty of a live bunny wears off when the enormity of the long-term commitment sinks in.

This leads to the abandonment or shelter-drop off of a real-life Easter bunny reject.

She recommends considering purchasing stuffed toys or books about bunnies this Spring season.

Wachter also if you must have the real thing, try to adopt a bunny and know that rabbits also do better in pairs.
