National Weather Service: No Drought Relief in Sight

Drought conditions worsening throughout South Florida.

"Last year at this time, there was moderate drought. The severe drought was mainly kept in Palm Beach County and the lake. Now this year, we're already sitting at the severe to extreme category of the drought across most of the area," said Sammy Hadi with the National Weather Service adding there's likely no relief in sight, with less than a half inch of rain expected over the next week.

That's bad news for Florida Forest Service's Chris Wasil.

"It is very dry. We are very concerned. These freezes that we got has us very concerned because of light grasses and you notice a lot of kill from those freezes," said Wasil.

Thirty-five counties as far south as Palm Beach and Collier now have burn bans in effect.
