Starting January First, boaters in Ft. Lauderdale will have to adhere to a new slow-speed, miminum-wake zone between the Oakland Park Boulevard Bridge and the Sunrise Boulevard Bridge just west of Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Slow speed is usually considered to be between 5 and 9-miles per hour. The goal is to improve safety and reduce traffic. The change comes after a teenager was killed back in August while boating in this area.
