Miami, FL - The Miami Dolphins are actively exploring trade possibilities for standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

According to general manager Chris Grier, as the team navigates key roster decisions ahead of the NFL Draft.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Grier confirmed that Ramsey did not request a trade or seek a contract renegotiation. Instead, after several offseason discussions with the player's representatives, both sides mutually agreed that exploring other opportunities might be in their best interest.

“These things aren’t done overnight,” Grier explained. “We’ve been working through this for a while and had good conversations throughout.”

Ramsey, who joined Miami via trade from the Los Angeles Rams in March 2023, signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension upon arrival.

The contract includes $24.2 million guaranteed for 2024.

Despite the trade talks, Ramsey’s status remains up in the air.

“If he’s here, we’ll handle it,” Grier said, noting the possibility that the cornerback could remain with the Dolphins.

Ramsey was sidelined early in his first season with Miami due to a knee injury but returned to deliver three interceptions and 22 tackles in 10 games.

He went on to play a full 17-game season in 2024, finishing with 60 tackles, two interceptions, 11 passes defended, and one sack.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has called Ramsey a versatile weapon, praising his ability to impact games from multiple positions.

While Grier declined to say if Ramsey was unhappy with his role, the team appears focused on building a roster that can compete long-term, with or without one of its top defensive stars.
