Plantation, FL - Authorities in Plantation are investigating a chilling discovery after a vehicle containing skeletal remains was recovered from a pond over the weekend.
The car was found submerged near the intersection of West Sunrise Boulevard and Flamingo Road, prompting a large police presence on Monday as investigators worked under tents beside the water.
The circumstances surrounding the vehicle and the remains inside are still being examined by local officials.
The recovery was first reported by Sunshine State Sonar, a volunteer search-and-recovery organization that specializes in locating vehicles and remains in bodies of water, often in connection with unsolved missing persons cases.
According to the group, the vehicle was located on Sunday and is believed to be linked to a disappearance that occurred decades ago.
At this time, Plantation Police have not confirmed any connection between the car and a specific cold case.
No details about the identity of the remains or the vehicle’s owner have been released.
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to assist in identifying the remains and determining a possible cause of death.
While speculation grows over whether the discovery may bring closure to a long-standing missing persons investigation, police have urged the public to remain patient as they conduct a thorough analysis of the evidence.
The case remains open, and further details are expected as forensic testing and investigations continue.
