Two students of a Martin County school are facing charges of bringing weapons to campus and threatening to use them. Both are separate incidents at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Palm City.
The most recent involved a 14-year old who was arrested on Wednesday when a school resource officer found a shank in the student's backpack.
The student claims he uses the pair of scissors with the handle broken off when he goes fishing and didn't intend to use it as a weapon. But another student claims the suspect threatened him with the shank.
The other incident happened March 6th after deputies were alerted to an email sent by a parent who said their child was scared to go to school because of a threatening message sent on social media.
The student behind that threat was found with a utility knife. The student admitted to sending the messages, confessing that he was threatening physical harm to another student if they continued to interact with a girl they both knew.
