The Miami Foundation today launched Press Forward South Florida, a groundbreaking tri-county initiative aimed at revitalizing the dwindling local news market. This collaborative effort, involving five community foundations, marks the first of its kind in South Florida.
The initiative kicked with a mission to understand the needs and preferences of South Floridians regarding local media. The first step in this ambitious project is a comprehensive landscape analysis, which will be informed by a survey open to all Miami residents. The survey seeks to gather input from at least 1,000 participants by March 21. The insights gained will directly influence how Press Forward South Florida allocates its investments in local media.
A spokesperson for the Miami Foundation expressed excitement about the project and emphasized the importance of community involvement. "Though many of us were born in another city, country, or culture, we all want to build a future and feel at home in South Florida. Local news helps us do that."
"Please take 10 minutes of your time to complete the survey and help us understand your needs and impressions of our local news. Your input will shape the funding that goes into local news through Press Forward South Florida," Quintana urged.
