Florida Man Arrested For Being Intoxicated And Armed In School Pickup Line

Fort Myers, FL - A Fort Myers man was taken into custody after police say he was found unconscious behind the wheel in an elementary school pickup line, allegedly under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a firearm.

Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Raymond Perez, who was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle during parent pickup at Orangewood Elementary School on Monday afternoon.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, a school resource officer noticed the situation and alerted patrol officers.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car and were forced to break a window to gain access to Perez.

Once inside, officers found Perez allegedly in possession of a firearm.

He was immediately taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence, possession of a weapon on school property, and driving with a suspended license.

Following the incident, Orangewood Elementary Principal Dwayne Blazina sent an email to parents, assuring them that the matter was handled swiftly and did not pose a threat to students or staff.

Blazina emphasized that law enforcement responded quickly and that all safety protocols were followed to maintain a secure environment.

Authorities have not disclosed why Perez was at the school while allegedly intoxicated, nor whether he had any connection to a student at Orangewood Elementary.

He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
