Semi-Truck Driver Arrested For Forcing Mother And Toddler Into Pond

Stuart, FL - A Florida mother and her 3-year-old child are recovering after a semi-truck driver allegedly forced their vehicle off the road and into a pond before leaving the scene to make a delivery, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Monday along Kanner Highway in Martin County.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office reported that the woman's car was struck by a semi-truck during a lane change, causing her vehicle to veer into a pond.

Witnesses observed the collision and saw the car submerge in the water.

The mother managed to free herself and her child, bringing them safely to the shore.

Deputies identified the truck driver as a 69-year-old Florida man.

According to the sheriff's office, the driver briefly slowed down but then continued to a local produce company, stating he needed to complete a delivery.

He was later apprehended by the Stuart Police Department and taken into custody.

The driver faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and improper lane change.

The mother and her child were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
