Miami Beach Launching Blue Zones Kickoff

Miami Beach is looking for new ways to help us live, work, learn and play longer by launching Blue Zones Ignite.

Miami Beach Vice Mayor Tanya Bhatt says as the city tries to shift its brand "from party 'til you drop to arts and culture, and theater and great food, and diverse culture, and all the things that we have to offer. I mean, obviously, we're not New York City, but we have a lot of great small but powerful and fabulous cultural institutions. So Blue Zones is a way to bring the community together, whether you live here, or you're visiting here, or you are thinking about starting a business here, in ways that enhance what we already have to offer and build upon the foundation that we already have."

Starting today Blue Zones experts will begin a six-month assessment before suggesting policy, system and social network changes to help build a community that supports healthier and happier generations.

"There are so many natural resources that we have, tons of parks, lots of really engaged communities, but there are always ways to make things better, and the goal of Blue Zones is for everybody to live a longer happy, healthier, connected life," Bhatt says.

The five original Blue Zones where people live the healthiest and longest include Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan and Loma Linda, California.
