Man Arrested For Allegedly Striking Neighbor With SUV And Leaving Scene

Miami, FL - A Miami resident faces serious charges after allegedly hitting his neighbor with an SUV and fleeing the scene.

According to authorities, 58-year-old Armando Guevara-Acosta was arrested on January 29th, more than a month after the incident that occurred around 6:30 a.m. on December 23rd near Southwest 107th Avenue and 38th Street.

As reported by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), the victim was crossing the street when a red Chevrolet Tahoe allegedly struck him.

On January 20th, the victim informed a detective at MDSO's Midwest District Station that he had identified the driver as his neighbor from across the street.

He provided a description of the vehicle and its license plate number, which matched Guevara-Acosta's SUV.

Authorities located Guevara-Acosta driving west on Southwest 40th Street on January 29th and conducted a traffic stop.

He was taken to the Midwest District Station for questioning, where he provided a written statement claiming he was unaware of being involved in a crash.

However, surveillance footage allegedly showed his vehicle striking the victim.

Guevara-Acosta was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury.

As of January 30th, he remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting bond determination.
