Bonifay, FL - A FedEx driver in Bonifay has been arrested after authorities discovered nearly 50 packages discarded in wooded areas, allegedly to save time on his delivery route.
The Holmes County Sheriffās Office launched an investigation after local residents found undelivered packages abandoned along roadsides and in nearby forests.
The driver, identified as Latavion Lewis, a contracted worker from Alabama, reportedly admitted to dumping the packages because he was behind schedule and felt overwhelmed by his delivery workload.
Lewis was arrested and charged with an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and illegal dumping.
Authorities estimate the total value of the discarded packages at several thousand dollars, with items ranging from household goods to electronics.
Sheriff John Tate addressed the incident, stating that this type of behavior is unacceptable and undermines public trust in delivery services.
He added that law enforcement is working closely with FedEx to ensure proper delivery of the recovered items.
The discarded packages have since been transferred to the Bonifay Post Office, where efforts are underway to identify and notify the intended recipients.
FedEx released a statement condemning the actions of the driver and emphasizing their commitment to providing reliable service.
The company confirmed that the individual was an independent contractor and has been permanently removed from their network.
