The lives of three fallen Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies were remembered yesterday on Capitol Hill.
Congressman Brian Mast, who spoke at a public memorial service for Deputies Ignacio "Dan" Diaz and Ralph "Butch" Waller as well as Corporal Luis Paez, took to the U.S. House floor yesterday to honor the service and sacrifice of the men who died in the line of duty last month.
"These men, they were always present. They were always on watch...because that was their calling...to protect every person in our community from danger, whether they knew them well or not."
Mast calls the deputies "warriors, strong, selfless and committed to protecting others."
He also asked the chamber to rise for a moment of silence.
The deputies were killed when a car went airborne and crashed into them as they were on the shoulder of busy Southern Boulevard.
