Fort Lauderdale, FL - Police have arrested a suspect accused of stabbing and robbing an Amazon delivery driver in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month.
The attack occurred around 7:30 p.m. on December 7th on the 1100 block of Northwest 10th Terrace.
Fort Lauderdale Police said the delivery driver had been stranded due to a flat tire when he was approached by the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Curtis Gardner.
Gardner allegedly brandished a knife, stabbed the driver, took one of his personal items, and fled the scene.
The driver, who was left seriously injured, was seen on nearby surveillance footage seeking help.
In the video, the driver knocked on a residence’s door and lifted his shirt to examine his wound, but fled when no one answered.
He then made his way to a nearby convenience store, where employees quickly stepped in to assist.
“For us, life is first, save a life first, no matter what,” said Asim Roi, the store owner.
Roi noted that his staff immediately called 911 to ensure the driver received prompt medical attention.
Fort Lauderdale police officers were later seen on additional surveillance footage arriving at the store to assist the victim.
The driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.
Amazon issued a statement following the incident, offering support to both the driver and authorities.
The company emphasized its commitment to driver safety, explaining that delivery personnel are instructed to avoid deliveries if they feel unsafe.
Amazon also provides 24/7 support, de-escalation, and safety training for its drivers.
Fort Lauderdale police arrested Gardner on Monday morning and charged him with felony attempted murder, armed carjacking, and burglary with battery.
Police said their preliminary investigation suggests the incident was random and clarified that the driver’s flat tire did not appear to be intentional.
However, they added that the investigation remains ongoing.
Gardner appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was denied bond.
Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
