A Florida Congressman has been elected as the new chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Republican Brian Mast represents portions of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast in the 21st Congressional District.
In a statement after yesterday's vote Mast said he is "grateful and humbled" by the trust his peers within the Republican Conference have placed in him and pledges that under his leadership, the committee "will have a clear mission statement: Every dollar and every diplomat will put America First."
Mast, a wounded Army veteran, will replace Texas Republican Michael McCaul, assuming he secures approval from the entire House Republican Conference early next year.
