Driver Jumps Off Seven Mile Bridge After Chase In Shocking FHP Video

Florida Keys, FL - A high-speed chase in the Florida Keys culminated in a dramatic scene as a driver leaped off the Seven Mile Bridge to evade law enforcement.

According to police, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers attempted to stop 34-year-old Joshua Lapidus of Palm Beach County for speeding on U.S. 1 on November 28th, 2024.

Instead of complying, Lapidus accelerated, weaving through traffic and reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Witnesses described the perilous situation, with one telling Local 10 News, "He misses us literally by inches... you really, like, could’ve killed all of us."

The pursuit escalated until Lapidus abandoned his vehicle and jumped from the Seven Mile Bridge into the waters below.

A Monroe County Sheriff's Office marine unit swiftly rescued him.

Captured on cellphone footage, Lapidus offered a simple explanation for his actions, telling officers "I got stoned."

Authorities charged Lapidus with multiple offenses, and he remains in Monroe County jail on a $105,000 bond.
